Program of events

WOI 12 has a continuous program of ground and air events across the whole day.The Gates open at 0930 hrs and there will be continuous activities across the whole of the public time which finishes at 1530 hrs

Ground Displays

There will be an active display of car club vehicles in the Car Display Arena across the day with commentaries by knowledgeable car club enthusiasts

There will be an active display of bike club machines in the Bike Display Arena across the day with commentaries by knowledgeable bike club enthusiasts

There will be a continuous display of historic vintage (mainly steam operated) farm machinery provided an an 'all day running' basis provided by the Southern Highlands Vintage Farm Machinery Group

There will be static displays in the public area offered by groups such as :- The Royal Flying Doctor Service / The Bendigo Bank Aerial Patrol / The Scout Air Wing from Camden / St Johns' Ambulance service / District 9750 Rotary Clubs

There will be Council approved food stalls available throughout the WOI 12 display areas

There will be static Defence Force  displays with selected RAAF and RAN fixed wing and helicopters available for public inspection, and displays from the Fleet Air Arm Museum and the Bankstown Aviation Museum

The HARS Hangars and aircraft will be open and available for public inspection

Flying Displays

Aircraft will be arriving as from early morning on the WOI 12 day, and many aircraft will be parked and open for public inspection across the whole day. The Air Show program commences at 1030 hrs.

Historic Aircraft

WOI 11 will feature both visiting warbirds and the historic aircraft collection operated and flown by HARS, which includes: a Lockheed Super Constellation (“Connie”)

Charter Aircraft

Charter flight aircraft will include the licensed charter groups operating out of the Illawarra Regional airport, and include Aerial Patrol/ NSW Air aircraft, and Touchdown Helicopters.

We are expecting more charter aircraft to be operating before and after WOI 11 on 27 Feb so we will list them here as they are confirmedaerial_patrol_helicopter

Model Aircraft

Model Aircarft Clubs have been invited to display their model aircraft at WOI 11.

Displays of Model Aircraft will be located inside one of the HARS major hangars (Static display only).

For WOI 11 there will NOT be a flying display of model aircraftmodel_aircraft

Classic Cars

Wings Over Illawarra features Classic and Historic Car Club Displays, and a large number of cars usually attend on the day.

ALL Car Clubs in NSW /ACT have been invited to attend WOI 12 and display their club vehicles.

There is a display arena for bikes and a display arena for cars with accompanying PA system, and volunteer cars from selected  Clubs attending will do low speed circuits of each arena across the WOI day accompanied by an expert commentary from a selected Club member

Each year a different marque is celebrated at WOI.

In 2009 it was the JAGUAR, for 2010 it was the MG and for WOI 11 featured the LARGE AUSTIN HEALEY SPORTS.

There is also planned to be a display of Classic Speedway Cars, Military History Vehicles, and Vintage Buses.

Vintage Trucks

Cleary Brothers’ Museum Collection of vintage trucks has been again invited to display a collection of vintage restored heavy trucks at WOI 11.

Community Groups

  • The following Community and Not For Profit Groups have been invited to display/ will display at WOI 11:-
  • Illawarra Light Rail Museum offering steam train rides ( gold coin donation) and model train displays.
  • Rural Fire Service Displays.
  • State Emergency Services Display
  • Aerial Patrol Display
  • Display and Recruiting Stands for e.g. Armed Services, RAAF Air Cadets, Air League, Rotary, Scouts-Including two aircraft from the Scout Air Wing Camden
  • St Johns Ambulance.
  • The NSW Ambulance Service rescue helicopter ( pictured) will operate from the Northern sections of the airport for the day in case of an emergency callout

Armed Forces Aircraft and Assets

The following Defence Force Aircraft and related appearances e.g. static displays and historic defence aircraft, are planned to attend WOI 11. Visitors to WOI 11 are advised that all aircraft are subject to availability factors, and there can be no guarantee provided that the aircraft planned to appear will actually on the dayarmy_plane_sml
  • RAAF “Roulettes” Aerobatics Display Team from East Sale featuring Pilatus PC9 aircraft.
  • Parachute jumps by Army “Red Berets” .
  • Defence aircraft as follows:
    • RAN:-Fleet Air Arm helicopters- Squirrel Display Team
    • RAN Historic Flight Iriquois
    • RAAF: F18 Hornet, C130 Hercules, and PC9 Pilatus
    • RAAF Balloon ( static only)
  • Fleet Air Arm Museum displays

  • Visiting “ Warbirds” aircraft from the Temora Aviation Museum:- WW2 Spitfire fighter and Hudson Bomber

Light Aircraft

WOI normally attracts a significant number of light aircraft participatinglight_aircraft_sml in the Fly In operated by SAAA Chapter 4 (South Coast) members.

WOI 10 attracted over 60 light aircraft, and subject to weather conditions we expect that number or more for the WOI 11 Fly In.

You are reminded that all aviation related appearances are subject to weather, pilot and aircraft availability, and although the organisers of WOI 11 encourage as many light aircraft as possible to join the Fly In, no guarantees can be given as to the numbers that actually appear on the day

Business Displays

Displays from Businesses located at the airport e.g. aircraft maintenance, general aviation, charter flights and replica aircraft construction.These will be located either in the general public display area OR inside the HARS Hangar 1 complex.

Classic Motorcycles

  • WOI 12 will again feature Classic and Historic MotorCycle Club Displays.
  • All Bike Clubs within NSW have been invited to attend WOI 12. For details of how to arrive as a Club see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) part of this website
  • Bike Club Display Arenas - WOI 12 will feature two dedicated display arenas, one for cars and one for bikes - within which classic car and bike clubs will display selected cars and bikes through the use of low speed circuits with a PA commentary by a knowledgable Club Member in each arena.classic_bikes

Farm Machinery

Vintage Farm Machinery Displays.

The Southern Highlands Vintage Farm Machinery Group has been invited to again display its extensive collection of mainly steam powered vintage farm machinery.

These steam powered machines run all day, and are a marvellous exhibit for young and old.
